about

This is a spoken word piece.

I was raised in the generation of girls for whom there were clubs and groups to join and attend, all run by a solid cadre of older women who seemed to have limitless energy and generosity. Some of them also had sharp tongues! The church choir, the Sunday school, the Girl Guides and the corps of dinner ladies - it was a great tradition of volunteering.

The Miss Oxenham mentioned is Elsie J Oxenham, whose books have been my comfort reading and inspiration from a young age. They are full of folk dance - she was there in the early days of the EFDSS - and are still, to me, a delight.

about

Talis Kimberley UK

"I'm a songwriter and singer; my songs are spun from folklore and history, stirred well with a hazel wand and served with cake. I'll sing you ravens and bones and the story behind the story, I'll sing you bread and apples, ghosts and knitting, and bring you home with a pocketful of feathers and hope"
