about

I wrote this many years ago, about Penelope of Ithaca. I got very excited when I mastered the art of handspinnning yarn onto a drop spindle, and thought of her often. The timescale had always struck me as a little fanciful, however, and the tale one-sided, so I set out to remedy that.

Years afterwards, this song grew a middle section and an endpiece. One day I'll do it justice with fiddle or similar taking the extra melody, but for now, in a solo version, here's my take on the tale.

This was already in my archive, recorded in my studio on the handheld Tascam some time ago. Probably on the Blond. Audio cleaned up by Mark Long.

Talis Kimberley UK

"I'm a songwriter and singer; my songs are spun from folklore and history, stirred well with a hazel wand and served with cake. I'll sing you ravens and bones and the story behind the story, I'll sing you bread and apples, ghosts and knitting, and bring you home with a pocketful of feathers and hope"
