Something the songwriter Kathy Mar said to me a few weeks ago sparked this song - the concept of 'leaving it all on the field' was too strong to pass up. I debuted it three days later as an encore at the Soul Food Bookshop in Redmond, near Seattle, to an audience that included folk from Occupy Seattle; it was so new my band hadn't heard it yet, but they and the audience were all there with me from the first kick, and it brought them to their feet.
It's a protest song, a gut-punch of a thing that wanted out. I suspect it's already growing new verses out there where people are singing it...
